At Guardian Support Solutions, we understand that life doesn’t always go to plan. Sometimes participants need to cancel their support shifts unexpectedly — and that’s okay. Our role as a local provider in Numurkah and the Greater Shepparton area is to balance compassion and flexibility with the need to keep our services sustainable and our support workers supported.
Why Short-Notice Cancellations Happen
We know that cancellations aren’t usually intentional. Participants may need to cancel for many reasons, such as:
- Feeling unwell or managing medical appointments.
- Family or personal emergencies.
- Transport issues.
- Mental health challenges.
- Sudden changes in day-to-day routines.
As a person-centred provider, Guardian Support Solutions respects the rights of participants to make changes to their supports when needed.
The Impact on Providers and Support Workers
While cancellations are sometimes unavoidable, last-minute changes can affect more than just the schedule. They may lead to:
- Lost income for workers who rely on regular shifts.
- Gaps in care planning and service delivery.
- Increased costs for providers trying to manage rosters and staffing fairly.
- Missed opportunities to support other participants who could have used that time.
Our team members are locals who care deeply about the community, so we do everything we can to reduce the impact of cancellations while still delivering reliable and quality care.
NDIS Rules About Cancellations
The NDIS Pricing Arrangements and Price Limits provide clear guidance:
- A cancellation is considered “short notice” if it occurs within 7 clear days of the booked support.
- In these cases, providers can usually claim the cost of the cancelled support from a participant’s NDIS plan.
- This ensures workers are still paid fairly and that providers can remain sustainable in the long term.
At Guardian Support Solutions, we always explain these policies during the Service Agreement process so participants know exactly what to expect.
How We Work Together Locally
Good communication is key. Here’s how we encourage our participants to help us manage cancellations:
- Let us know as soon as possible if you can’t attend or need to cancel.
- Work with us to reschedule where possible, so you don’t miss out on important support.
- Be open in conversations about what’s working for you — our local team is here to adapt and respond.
By doing this, participants help us protect valuable NDIS funds, support our workers, and keep services running smoothly for the whole community.
Care with Dignity, Support with Heart
At Guardian Support Solutions, our focus is on building strong, trusting relationships with participants across the Goulburn Valley and Moira Shire. We believe that balancing participant choice and control with fair and sustainable service delivery ensures the best outcomes for everyone.
